User Registration and Initial Login
Visit eLTER DAR (or any other eLTER CI Component that enables user authentication) and browse to the login page by clicking the “Log in” button on the upper right corner of the eLTER DAR page.
On the next page click the “Sign in with eLTER AAI” button.
Select the identity provider of either your home institution or use alternative login options (ORCID account, Google identity). If your home institiution is not selectable in the list, please contact us.
You should be forwarded to your home institution's identity provider (or to the login page of Google/ORCID). If this leads to an error message (e.g., your home institution needs to establish trust with our AAI), please contact us.
After logging in to your home institution's identity provider (or ORCID/Google), you'll be asked to authorise the transfer of the listed personal information to the “eLTER AAI Login”. The authorization page should look like the following example but be branded with the corporate design of your home institution (ORCID, Google):
When visiting the eLTER Research Infrastructure for the first time (ie., not having an eLTER account previously created), you will be redirected to an application form for the eLTER AAI account. Please fill in the necessary information (especially the username, which will be used within the eLTER services that use it, e.g., DataLabs).
Note: If you already have the eLTER AAI account and you want to log in via multiple identities (like your home institution login as well as your ORCID), you have to pair your existing identity with the new one. To do so, visit the management of your identities under your eLTER AAI profile and select “Add” under the section “Your linked accounts”. Now, authenticate using your alternative identity; if successful, you should have the new identity paired with your account. (From now, you can freely use any of these to authenticate to the eLTER RI.)
Once the application is submitted, you should see a confirmation message. Please, wait for our side to approve your application.
Once your application is approved and you visit an eLTER service again, the eLTER AAI Login service will now ask for your consent again (now, it is consent to provide the eLTER AAI login information to the services). You can also tick the "Remember" box so that you won't be asked the next time you log in:
Once you click “Yes, continue” you’ll be forwarded back to the eLTER service from which you initiated this registration process (e.g., the eLTER DAR). The application should indicate that you are logged in using your newly created user profile:
If you want to upload data, you must request permission to create new assets. Click on the “My assets” menu item in the top navigation bar, then click on the “Create asset” button on the next page:
The next page informs you that your access has been denied due to missing roles or permissions. To request the appropriate role, click the “Request Access” button:
A new page with an application form for the eLTER Data Provider role will open. You will need to enter a name for your site or platform and provide a description of your eLTER involvement. These details will be forwarded to the eLTER administrators, who will use them to assess your request. This information will not be published anywhere, nor will it be used for any other purpose.
You must indicate that you agree to the Acceptable Use Policy (the final version of which is currently being prepared). This confirms that you are aware of the purposes of the eLTER DAR and that you promise not to upload any inappropriate or copyrighted works belonging to other authors.
Once you have submitted the application, the following confirmation page should appear. You can then close this window. You will then need to wait for approval from the eLTER administrators, which could take up to three working days. You will receive confirmation by email at the address provided by your local identity provider (your home institution mail address, ORCID or Google).
Once your application for the role has been approved, you should have received a confirmation email. Then, you need to log out and log back in to eLTER DAR:
