eLTER Data Provider Acceptable Use Policy (AUP)

1. Purpose

This Acceptable Use Policy (“AUP”) sets out the rules and guidelines for using the eLTER Digital Asset Registry (DAR, “the Service”). The purpose of this AUP is to ensure the secure, lawful, and responsible use of the Service by all users, and to protect the integrity of the repository, its users, and the data it hosts.

2. Scope

This AUP applies to all registered users of the Service, including institutional accounts, individual researchers, students, and guest users, regardless of their location.

3. Acceptable Use

The Service is intended for the storage, sharing, and retrieval of datasets for academic, research, and educational purposes. Users are expected to:

  • Upload only datasets that they have the legal right to store, use, and share.

  • Ensure that datasets are properly documented and described.

  • Respect intellectual property rights and licensing conditions.

4. Prohibited Activities

Users must not:

  • Upload, share, or distribute any content that is illegal, defamatory, discriminatory, obscene, or otherwise inappropriate.

  • Upload datasets containing personal data (as defined by GDPR) unless explicit consent or another lawful basis applies and is documented.

  • Upload content that infringes any copyright, trademark, or other intellectual property rights.

  • Upload or distribute malicious software, viruses, or any other harmful code.

  • Use the Service to harass, abuse, or harm others.

  • Circumvent security measures or attempt to gain unauthorised access to the Service or its infrastructure.

5. User Responsibilities

  • Users are solely responsible for the legality and compliance of the content they upload.

  • Users must keep their login credentials secure and not share them with others.

  • Users must promptly remove any content that is found to violate this AUP or applicable laws.

6. Monitoring and Enforcement

The Service Provider reserves the right to:

  • Monitor usage of the Service to ensure compliance with this AUP.

  • Remove or disable access to any content that violates this AUP without prior notice.

  • Suspend or terminate user accounts in case of repeated or serious violations.

7. Changes to this Policy

We may update this AUP from time to time. Users will be notified of any material changes and will be required to accept the updated version before continuing to use the Service.
